They believe all the words written by the original authors in the original manuscripts were inspired. That means the Old and New Testaments are inspired. There is no part of the Bible that we can delete or ignore without consequence.

First is the natural theory: humans wrote the Bible without divine involvement. Paul wrote his books independent of Moses, or Jude, or Peter.

There's also the dictation theory: God had physical and mental control of the authors writing the Bible. In a sense he was piloting the body and mind of Paul as he wrote. There's a problem: often the authors say things from a human perspective, which wouldn't be possible if they weren't involved. Then the Bible would either be lying, or parts of it would not be God breathed.

According to 2 Peter, Scripture isn't open to private interpretation because it is the Word of God written by holy men moved by the Holy Spirit. Just like the wind directs ships, God's spirit moved men to write the words that he wanted. The same person can play the same song with different instruments and each time it will sound unique. Or the same person can write the same message with different pens and it will be unique. In both examples, all the variations are still the author's work.

God was in charge of the authoring of his word, but he used humans to write and "flavor" his words as well. John MacArthur says "The Greek word for “interpretation” has the idea of a “loosing,” as if to say no Scripture is the result of any human being privately “untying” and “loosing” the truth. Peter’s point is not so much about how to interpret Scripture, but rather how Scripture originated, and what its source was. The false prophets untied and loosed their own ideas. But no part of God’s revelation was unveiled or revealed from a human source or out of the prophet’s unaided understanding (see 1:21)."

What Does This Mean?

The Bible is inerrant, which means that it is not false in any way. Wayne Grudem, an American theologian, says “The inerrancy of Scripture means that Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact.” It does not contradict itself, nor does it contradict reality. There's a pretty simple reason for this. Because the Bible is God's word breathed out by him, it cannot contain errors. Let's look at the parts of this statement.

We see this in 디모데후서 3장16-17절 which states that God has breathed out the Bible, which is why it is profitable.

We see this many places in the Bible, but Dr. Nathan Crockett points out three in particular:

If the Bible is God's word, and God never lies, then all the Bible must be true. This allows for things like human observation, rounded numbers, and natural language. It is not a lie for me to say that it takes me 7 minutes to get home. It is not a lie for me to describe the appearance of the sun in the morning as "rising." It is not a lie for me to say there are dozens of people in this building. Since humans helped write the Bible it's reasonable that they would do the same things we do: round, estimate, and observe.

The Bible is special and unique. It is the only written work we have that contains the words of God. There have been many great books in human history, but the Bible is not just a great work of literature. It is the actual words of the person who created us. Does that give us a higher view of the Bible than other books?

How Do We Apply This?

We should study the Bible. The person who created you bothered to write down his thoughts and commands for you. Does that motivate you to know what he said? When you know that I will test you on something, you pay close attention. And you must realize that life will test us on things that God has told us in his word. So study it to prepare yourself, but also study it because you love the person who wrote it.

We should share the Bible and its teachings with others. The Bible contains the most important message: how to be in a right relationship with the one who created us. If you have heard it and accepted it, you have a responsibility to share it with others. But we should also spread the words of God around the world. Do you remember when Dr. Park came to present her translation ministry? What she's doing is important. She's making sure that people have God's word in their own language. You can have a part in that ministry. You might not be able to translate or give tons of money, but you can spread the good news here in our city.

We should trust God's word because of where it came from. God is the author, God is truth, and God cannot lie. It is as trustworthy as its author. Assuming you believe there is a God, then you must believe his word, and we can. We can have assurance of salvation through God's word and its ministry to us.

What do you think of the Bible? Do you hate the Bible, hate listening to it, and hate being around those who love it? The Bible says those who do not believe God will think it is foolish, and if it's foolish to you, you aren't saved. If you see heaven as the less painful alternative to hell, then you don't understand the purpose of salvation. Salvation isn't designed to get you out of hell, it's designed to bring God glory. A speaker at Bob Jones said "Heaven is not a place for people who can't stand the thought of hell. Hell is a place for people who can't stand the thought of heaven." So from a negative perspective, you can know you're not saved if you hate God's word.

But the Bible assures believers of salvation as it ministers to and resonates with us. Sometimes the strongest believer sees little when they read it. But there are many more times of searching the Bible and seeing the change that God is making in you. When I was in college there was a span of several weeks where I read nothing but the Bible except what I had to read for class. When I finished my homework or other responsibilities I would climb into my bunk, pick up my Bible, and dive into it for hours. That was a positive confirmation of my salvation, because I love God's words. Do I always feel that way? No, but I know that I do not hate the words of God. I know that they minister to me, and both of these are evidences of my salvation.

That's why I believe in the inspiration of the Bible.
